Not only will 2011 bring me my own child but it brought another VERY special baby into my life...my baby horse Pj!! My parents gave me the gift of breeding my horse for my college graduation. My Dad and I had always talked about doing this and it was our dream to have a baby foal one day. Well things were pretty tough, it was def. easier said than done!!! It took us 3 years to get her pregnant. But FINALLY on our last try it worked!! When Ben and I got back from our honeymoon I found out the great news! We were going to have a baby horse!!! During Maggie's 11 month pregnancy my Dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I thought surely he would be around to see our dream turn into reality. That was not to be the case. A couple of months before he passed away I told him I wanted him to name this baby. He said "Megan this is your baby, you name it." I said "Dad this is OUR baby horse and I would love nothing more than you to name it." So he thought about it for awhile and about a month before he passed I got the call. My mom and dad had just got done with a doctors appt and the news wasn't good. My mom called and said "Megan, your dad has thought of a name...He wants to name the baby "Donnie's Pride & Joy". He said he named it after you and your sister because you 2 have always been the Pride and Joy of his life." I'm not sure how she could get the words out because I sure couldn't. All I could do was sit there and cry and think that that was the perfect name. That is why mom called to tell me because my dad would have never been able to get the words out. So after my dad passed in December the anticipation of this baby grew larger and larger. Finally after countless sleepless nights waiting for a phone call from the barn it was time!!! The labor and delivery was not exactly what we had hoped for. Not only was Pj not in the right position, the placenta was coming first which is his only source of oxygen. My baby was suffocating. I am truly blessed and very lucky to have such amazing people around me who knew EXACTLY what to do. Without Satawa (lady who runs the barn and my best buddy) my baby would have died. With a quick readjustment and a lot of pulling we got him out safe and sound!!!!! He was here and the dream had come true...It was a bitter sweet night. I wish so bad my dad could have been there in person to see this baby enter the world, but I felt like I got a part of my dad back when Pj got here. He is a very special boy and I always smile to myself when I look at him and remember the amazing man who gave him his name.
